Kings County Hospital Negligence
As Brooklyn resident Esmin Green waited 24 hours to be seen at Kings County Hospital, she was ignored countless times by staff. Little did she know that in her most extreme time of need, she would be equally ignored. Video surveillance from the hospital shows Ms. Green collapsing to the floor and remaining there for over an hour as staff and security pass by and do not respond to her obvious need. When she is finally attended to after remaining on the floor for over an hour, she was pronounced dead. The director of psychiatry, doctor on duty and director of security were all immediately relieved of their positions, but the fact remains that the incident should have never become an issue in the first place. Senior partner Jeff Lichtman weighs in on this tragic event:
Negligence by the staff of Kings County Hospital led to the tragic death of Esmin Green. New York consumers are entitled to far better treatment and care. No person should ever be ignored and left on the floor to die in a hospital. Measures must be taken to ensure the quality of medical care for all New Yorkers is far superior to the type of treatment Esmin Green received.
There is absolutely no excuse for the events that took place surrounding the death of Ms. Green, and many wonder what steps need to be taken to make sure the incident never occurs again.
